The Plan vs the Reality in wildlife photography

May 22nd, 2021

Sometimes people think wow animals are always posing so majestically, and that's understandable as most photographers only show that side of wildlife. It must be wonderful seeing wildlife all the time, you say. It is wonderful seeing wildlife so often, but they are not always posing majestically. Most of the time they are like us humans in that they just want to relax, to be lying around their homes in sweats so to speak.

Let's look at this pho.......

Whats up with how small your west Texas mule deer seem

Whats up with how small your west Texas mule deer seem

What’s up with how small your west Texas mule deer seem?

Through the decades I have been asked that question by many people that are used to seeing the larger mule deer in central and western states. The simple answer is genetics and the environment they live in. I don’t mean bad genetics though that can play a part at times, I’ll save that discussion for a different day.

What do I mean by genetics then? Get the answer on my newest blog post.

October 22nd, 2020

Well if you look at my photos you see lots of dead trees so it is obvious I'm not much a logger.

Look at my website and you can see I'm not much of a blogger.

Hopefully one day I will start writing more.

Thanks for your time and support.

Old School Photographer

Old School Photographer

In the good old film days most poor boy photographers such as myself only took a picture when they were sure it would be good. The film, processing, and printing were to expensive to just take tons of shots. With digital photography pretty much everyone can claim to be a photographer. They can afford to take a thousand shots to get one good one. While I am happy more people can enjoy photography and share how they see things it saddens me that much of the true art form of photography has been lost. Gone for so many is taking time waiting for the perfect light, making sure you have the perfect angle. Now its just push the button and load to editing software and manipulate the image.

If you read this and realize you are just snapping tons of images I encourage you to try the old school methods and take time to find the perfect shot. Try for quality not quantity. Make a great shot then processing of the image should be quick and simple as you will not need many if any adjustments.

Just make it to another sunrise

Just make it to another sunrise

The sunrises never cease to amaze me. Daily we can see the same piece of sky yet the art work that is the sunrise changes daily and often many times during the same sunrise. Take time out of your day to look at them and enjoy.
